Visual art. Safety. Empathy.
This is a visual art piece I am working on that will be exhibited in Jacobs Market in the autumn,
It is a sculpture of a small boat, made from windfall wood that I have scavenged from the hills surrounding my home.
It will be placed in a stormy sea, which I am hoping to create from old, broken roofing slates.
It is an expression of the precarity and terror I felt during a bout of acute psychosis I suffered in November 2024.
However, the term small boats’ is also a phrase that is never far from our headlines at the moment.
This sculpture seeks to create empathy for the human beings who, for whatever reason and whether lawful or not, right or wrong, are undertaking extraordinarily dangerous journeys.
